M&K Auto Repair and Collision

  • How often should I change my oil?

For most vehicles, oil changes are recommended every 3,000 to 5,000 miles when using conventional oil, or 7,500 to 10,000 miles for synthetic oil. However, the specific interval can vary based on your vehicle's make and model, your driving habits, and the type of oil used. It's best to consult your vehicle's manual or speak with a professional mechanic for personalized advice.
  • What does the check engine light mean?

The check engine light is an indicator from your vehicle's onboard diagnostic system, signaling that the computer has detected an issue with the engine, emissions system, or other critical components. Common triggers include a loose or faulty gas cap, problems with the oxygen sensor or catalytic converter, spark plug or ignition coil issues, transmission troubles, or emissions system faults. While some causes may be minor, others can lead to significant damage if not addressed promptly. If your check engine light illuminates, especially if it's flashing, we strongly recommend scheduling a diagnostic check immediately to prevent potentially costly repairs.
  • When do I need to replace my brakes?

Consider brake replacement if you notice any of these signs: squeaking or grinding noises during braking, decreased braking performance or increased stopping distances, vibration or pulsation in the brake pedal, an illuminated brake warning light on your dashboard, or visibly thin brake pads (less than 1/4 inch thick). Generally, most brake pads require replacement every 30,000 to 70,000 miles, depending on driving habits and vehicle type. Regular brake inspections are crucial for safety. If you're unsure about the condition of your brakes, we offer complimentary brake checks at our shop.
